The main components you will find in this section include telecommunication outlet, cable termination, cross connection, a one transition point maximum, a wire to Work Area from patch panel and cross connection in telecom rooms.

Backbone cabling section

Backbone cabling section does provide an interconnection between a telecommunication closet, equipment room, etc. This section includes components like a backbone cable (optical fiber cable) mechanical termination and patch cables used for Backbone to backbone cross connection. There are two subsystems defined by this section they include.

- Cabling Subsystem two

In this subsystem, you'll find backbone cabling interconnecting a horizontal cross-connect and intermediate cross-connect.

- Cabling Subsystem three

In this subsystem, you'll find backbone cabling section interconnecting intermediate cross-connect, and the main cross-connect.


Equipment room

The Equipment Room section is a centralized space environmentally controlled for telecommunication equipment. You may find this part more complex than telecom room or a telecommunication enclosure. The section usually houses central cross connects like the C distributor and can contain an intermediate cross-connect and horizontal cross-connect.

Telecommunication Closet room

A telecommunication closet room houses both the horizontal and backbone cable termination to connect hardware that includes any patch cords or jumpers. This part may also contain intermediate cross-connect or main cross-connect for various portions of backbone cabling section. The section can also provide a controlled environment to a connecting hardware, splice enclosure and house telecommunication equipment that serves a portion of the building.

Entrance facilities section

The Entrance facilities section does contain a cable, connecting hardware, network demarcation point, protection device and other equipment that connect to private network or access provider cabling. The section includes connections that are between outside plant and inside building cabling.
